A visit to Aquaculture Department, NAU, Navsari

Postgraduate students of Bhagwan Mahavir College of Science & Technology, Surat were taken for aquaculture visit to College of Fisheries Science, Navsari Agriculture University, Navsari on 5th December, 2016 as a part of their academic curriculum. Totally 30 students from our college visited the place.

At College of Fisheries Science, students were shown the basic facilities available at the college like laboratories & equipment. Then after faculties of college explained regarding the rearing methodologies used currently for the culturing of aquatic animals for the purpose of human consumption. They were also explained regarding the different type of diseases prevailing in those aquatic animals which are harmful for them as well as to humans. They explained the method used for the detection of one of the most devastating disorder found in shrimp and prawns that is White Spot Syndrome (WSS) and Yellow Spot Syndrome (YSS).

After that students went to visit the rearing ponds for prawns and fishes located at Danti, Navsari which are taken care by College of fisheries science itself. At the pond site Mr. Mihir Patel, Assistant professor of that college explained about the methods and instrument used for the artificial rearing of prawns and fishes in ponds. He also discussed regarding Polyculture method used by them for rearing multiple types of fishes in one pond system. And at the end Dr. Borisagar, Nodal officer, College of fisheries Science, NAU gave motivational speech for the encouragement of our students and discussed about the importance of aquatic animals and aquaculture for human in future.
